Fitzroy - Finlay in Killinchy
« on: Saturday 09 January 10 22:42 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find information on my great great grandfather John Finlay Fitzroy born 14 April 1877.  I believe his parents were James FItzroy and Margaret Finlay.  I am not sure but think they were from Killinchy.

In the late 1960's an Eva and Derek Savage came over from Ireland. They were cousins.  Their address was Fitzroy house, Whiterock Rd Killinchy. So I am going with the assumption that this is the family homestead.

Can anyone help me with this?  Is there anyone I can contact in Killinchy to see if there are relatives left in this town.  I am sure that Derek and Eva are no longer among the living.  I am not sure that a letter addressed to just FItzroy house would be deliverd.

there looks to be a possible match for his birth on the Irish Civil Index :

 Name: John Fitzroy
 Registration district: Downpatrick
 Record type: Birth
quarter and year: Jan - Mar 1877
 Volume: 6 / Page: 575

you could order a birth cert from the GRONI or GRO using these details to find more exact details on his birth. The townland of Killinchy is in this registration district.

May not help with searching for house but there's a J. Fitzroy (grocer) in Killinchy in 1886 directory (along with Miss. A. Finlay)-

Mary,

Thank you so much!  I did not have this. The only thing I had was the names.  This makes perfect sense, John was born roughly 10 months later.

Thanks again!

Pam
