Rev. Alexander Gunn of Watten
« on: Friday 08 January 10 13:03 GMT (UK) »
I am interested to find trees with the Reverend Alexander Gunn of Watten(1775-1836) who was the brother of Captain James Gunn of Scouthell(1776-1825) who is my direct line ancestor but is one who does not appear in  many published trees.
The Rev. Alexander's son, also a Rev. Alexander (1809-1892,) wrote 'The History of the Clan Gunn' and gave a manuscript copy to each of his family and it is this which I am trying to trace. There is a copy in existence, mentioned in various articles about the Gunns in Caithness and I would appreciate any help in finding a copy or sharing information.

Hello ejam

I take it you've downloaded the 9 page will of the Rev Alexander Gunn (d.1892) from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - cost £5.00

GUNN ALEXANDER 08/04/1893 REV., F.C. MINISTER, WATTEN, COUNTY OF CAITHNESS, D. 14/12/1892 AT WATTEN, TESTATE   WICK SHERIFF COURT SC14/

and also the 11 page will for:

GUNN ALEXANDER ,REVEREND 04/08/1840 MINISTER OF WATTIN,DIED AT THURSO   WICK SHERIFF COURT SC14/40/3

Sorry, have no info on the manuscript.

Regards,

Steve ......  :O)

The owners of this website might have some more information on the whereabouts of a copy as they list it as "forthcoming" to their collection.

Hi Piglet01,

yes thanks, got all that.
Captain James's will was interesting in that his brother Alexander became the beneficiary of his will and not his wife(unproven) Isobel Rosie. She was left penniless to bring up their family whilst he inherited silver, cash and goods to over £3000. Unfortunately the records of Watten church, directly regarding the family, are misssing.
Man of the cloth?

Regards,
ejam

Hi

I am just writing up an 1869 tree which was based on the papers of the Rev. Sage and lent by the Rev. Alex. Gunn of Watten. Yes, Captain James  Scouthell is on it but with a lot more on the other 'Watten' Gunns.  Have a look at http://clangunn1.blogspot.co.uk/ but you may have to give me another 24 hours before I put the 'Watten / Hastigrew'  Gunn line up as I've got to scan the tree etc.

cheers
Alastair

Hi Watten Gunns

You now need to look at

http://clangunn1.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/watten-gunns-john-gunn-crowner-gunns.html

as it has a lot of Gunn Watten genealogy on it

as I am now uploading all the Thomas Sinclair  Clan Gunn History Supplements to go with my earlier 1868 and 1870 trees (No-one else has put such information up, what do Clan Gunn Societies do?)

My aim is to put lots of Gunn information onto the net which has not been seen before, so people can actually link into  main Clan Gunn lines, not least to help find the real Clan Gunn Chief, before a random person is chosen. I've already found 'Chief' George Gunn of Rhives descendants seehttp://clangunn1.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=rhives in the USA

The idea that no-one can prove links to the old Clan Gunn Chiefs is really silly and this Rhives line is just another example...
