Take their 14 day free trial to see how you get on wth it. It took me a while to get the hang of how to use the site properly, but I now find it easy to use.

Oh, just one thing - to get the free trial you have to give them your credit card number. You must make sure that you cancel the free trial BEFORE the 14 days trial is finished, otherwise they will charge the annual fee to your card. Let us know how you get on.

Oh, and another thing - depending on which country your research is and where you live, you may like to consider a trial of Ancestry.co.uk (for UK based research) or Ancestry.com.au (for Australia based reserach). Ancestry.com has a US slant.

I should have guessed with a name like "Jackaroo"  ;)

I'm in Australia but most of my research is in the UK.

PS. I have had 14 day trials of both '.com.au' and '.co.uk'.

PPS. And if you have a friend or partner they may also like to take advantage of these free trials. (and they might be kind enough to let you do some of your research during their free trials  ;))

Not really Jackaroo.

However if you register with this site:
http://www.ancestralscotland.com/search/
They will give you 10 free SP credits, sent to your email address.

You need to be a member of Scotland's People so join up if you haven't already done so.  ;)

Then if you go to the part in SP where you can buy more credits, there is a section where you can enter the code number. And the credits are added to your account.

Once again, if you have several email addresses, or have freinds or relatives whose email addresses you know, you can register everyone at Ancestral Scotland, and they will ALL be sent code numbers to their email addresses. You can then use these code numbers for more free credits.

Good luck, with your  free trial Jackaroo.
I've been with Au and UK now for 8 months and found 9000 direct and non direct people for my family.

I have found and linked up with 1st 2nd 3rd + cousin's who I had know idea of when I started out 8 months ago.

My new found Cousin's are amazed when they see how we come to be related and enjoy adding to there family research.

Some of the Cousin's have been doing there Ancestry for 8 or more years and again are amazed at the betailed records that come with my research in such a short time.

When  they ask how I did it, I tell them I pay a monthly sub's  Au $10 - $12 to ancestry.com

Jackaroo, I would go for the Au$10-$12 monthly Sub's with ancestry.com.

Your family tree should burst into life.
Good luck
