Hi Themonsstar

Thank you!

That is quite a surprise, as he was born and bred in Staffordshire!

Hi, i'm not sure of the cap badge but he must have been part of an Argyll Battalion, his cap badge is rather small compared to the Argyll Badge which is very large in comparison.

The Dicing ( on his left shoulder ) is the red and white dicing ( to commemorate the Old 93rd Sutherland Highlanders Battle Honour at Balaklava in the Crimea " The Thin Red Line " ) that the Argyll's still wore up until the late 90's

He may have been from a minor unit and part of the make up of the Battalion.

I am trying to gauge the other flash below it but not sure, if i find out i will be sure to pass on any info.

The formation sign is to the 8th Corps... the white on red charging knight was adopted in February of 1943.

I don't believe I'm on that site already and never knew an Argyll Battalion were part of it. I keep track from my days in Minden from 89-93 in Elizabeth Brks. Thanks again and I will bookmark the other link tomorrow.

Alan,

As you might expect, there is plenty more info on the 8th Corps available online if you are interested.

The two links I provided above are just my selections, but I am sure you will be able to cherry-pick the specific info you are interested in from other sites.

All the best,

Peter.
