Lofthouse Family
« on: Thursday 07 January 10 15:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,
I am trying to find out anything I can about a Francis Robert Lofthouse, born approx 1894 in Thornaby, he was on the 1901 census aged 7 for that area. He married a Florence May Sowerby in 1913 aged 19. Apparently he left his wife at some point and disappeared. Any help in finding out where he went, did he re-marry, when and where he died etc would be a great help.

Best Regards
Mike Fletcher

His birth reg gives

Sept Q 1893
Francis Robert Lofthouse
Middlesbrough 9d 619

A possible death is

Dec Q 1965
Francis R Lofthouse
age 72
Macclesfield 10a 416

If this is him and I can find no other Francis R Lofthouse births on freeBMD between 1890 and 1897 then the cert may give you a clue with the informant.

We know he was still there approx 1914 as his son was born Sept Q 1914

There is a medal card on ancestry with remarkably little info on it.

Francis R  Lofthouse
Durham Light infantry - Sergeant - Regt no 45529
Qualified for the Victory medal and the British medal.

No other info on the card

Hello Madpants,
Many thanks for your quick response and help to my message. It now confirms some information of what I had and gives me more reference his Date of Death in Macclesfield which needs more research. I will look up the WWI records for his service, many thanks for your help. I now live in Scotland and find it hard to get information sometimes.

Many thanks
Mike
