Bywell St Peter place name COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 07 January 10 05:53 GMT (UK) »
I have just found an entry in the Bywell St Peter parish register for my ggg grandfather William Stobbart baptised 19 May 1793 son of Wm and Rachel Stobbart of looks like Rochey-foot.  His brother (twin?) on the line above looks like Roacheyfoot.  Checking for siblings I found Roachafoot, Rochelfoot, and Rochel Foot.  I then went to the Bishop Transcripts and found Rochel Foot, Rochel foot, Rochel-foot, and Roachefoot.  Does anyone know the correct name for this place and where it was?

Gary,
I had checked this site before.  I must be missing it.  Please tell me where it has the correct name of my Rochel Foot or whatever.

Hi Sue

My apologies I thought you were after information on Bywell. That will teach me to drink the first cup of coffee before replying to posts. I have checked every place name beginning with R in my Place Names of Northumberland but nothing even close. Perhaps it was a farm?? I will check some of my other books to see if it gets a mention.

Can't see anything on the Northumberland Farm Index that seems to correspond  :(

Hi Jennifer

Nothing at all remotely like it any of the books I have. Even scoured old maps on keys to the past, nothing diddly squat.

I can't see Bywell St Peter in the Bishops's Transcripts - only Bywell St Andrew.
Can you point us to where in the Transcripts you found these entries, please?

Not that this is helping us work out exactly where it was. But at least we know it was definitely there somewhere  ;D
