DOYLE/DARKE Family
« on: Monday 04 January 10 19:00 GMT (UK) »
If anyone has any information on the following people it would be gratefully received.
This is all I have to date:
1869 Richard DOYLE was born in Cashel, Tipperary, Ireland on Mar 5, to John DOYLE and Johanna/Judith WITHERO. He was baptized on Mar 7 1869.
His godmother was Mary BUTLER.
According to his military record he was living in England by 1888. He was a bombadier with the Royal Artillary. His mother Johanna/Judith and younger brother William were listed as his contact people, living in Waterford, Johnstown.
In 1892 he married Matilda DARKE, daughter of Richard DARKE and Mary Ann VERES.
The witnesses were J. ROCKY and Lavinia DARKE I have received the registry for this.
Children:
Claud Antony 1896
Kathleen May 1899
Douglas Pat 1906
Mary Patricia b. 1912
He was a member of the Royal Garrison Artillary from 1888-1909 and 1915-1918.
In 1915 he is listed on WWI Pension Records as living at 18 Brittania Pl. Prince Rock, Plymouth, England.
In 1940 he is cited on his sisters obituary as surviving her and living in England.

Thank you and happy searching to you,
Maureen

Hi

The reference for their marriage is December qtr 1892 Plymouth Volume 5B  Page 619

You can order a copy of the marriage cert online at www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Cost is £7 but only his fathers name and occupation will be shown - English and Welsh marriage certs do not show a mothers name

Re : CSM Richard Doyle

Hi,

If you go to the Irish census for 1911 and 1901 at www.census.nationalarchives.ie (it's free)

Search the census for Johanna Doyle living with her daughter in Waterford.

For 1911 she is shown for living at house No 7 Well road Waterford
For 1901 she is shown as living at 20 Tramore Old Rd Waterford

This is the same woman. Her age in one of them is incorrect.
This woman's maiden name is Withroe/Withero from Cashel Co. Tipp

This is Sgt Major Doyle's mother.  The Mary Power listed is her daughter. Her (Mary's) daughter is the Kate on the census form. This is my Grandmother. Johanna Doyle is my great great grandmother.
Johanna is buried in The Chapel Of Ease, Ferrybank Parish, Waterford, Ireland.
Mary Power is Richards sister and my grat grandmother.

Mary

Hi,

Thank you, I had found Johanna living with Mary and I did know Mary and Richard were siblings. I had received the baptism records form Cashel, and have been researching trying to find all the siblings. Mary and Richard had a sister Kate, she stood up for Mary when she married. She is my Great Grandmother, she had a daughter Agnes, who had a daughter Mary, who had me !
Kate married George Robinson ( my brick wall) in Waterford and they came to Boston Ma. William a younger brother to Kate, Mary & Richard joined the Robinson's.
Would love to hear more and share more. I am in Falmouth, Massachusetts. I did not know where Johanna was burried, thank you for that information
Best,
Maureen

Hi again,

I looked at my records and realized I have never found a death date for Johanna Withero Doyle. I have John Doyle, son of Matthew and Catherine Burke as dying in Feb of 1884, do you know if he is buried with Johanna?
Here is a picture of Catherine Doyle Robinson b.1860 - d. 1940, Mary'd sister

Many thanks for the photo. I will try and find out as much as I can. I will be at home in Waterford next week and will make some enquiries. I have just started research and at the moment I have disjointed info all over the place. Irish families are very confusing as we keep recycling the same Christian names over and over again as you prob already know. When I have anything new I will post it. If there is any money involved ...well what can I say    8)
