Maureen,

My brother rang me to say that the date on Johanna's gravestone shows 1913.
He thinks that this could be out by a couple of years though as the date for her daughter Mary is incorrect. When I get to Waterford next week I will pop in and have a look at the book entries.
'Sometimes' these can have a cross reference showing communion/confirmation/wedding date.
I wouldn't be confident on this point though as Sgt Major Doyle doesn't show his religion as RC.
Also Withero is not a RC name in general.

If I'm not imposing to ask, and the books are easy to access I would love to find out if there is a record for Catherine Doyle marrying George W Robinson about 1883. He is noted as being born in 1863 in  Waterford, but we have found nothing to lead us towards his parents. We don't know where he began and as he left the family in 1914 - we don't his end either.
If you see anything anything when you are lookiing at the Doyles, I'd appreciate the information.
Most of the information I gave you previously regarding births marriages - came from Tipperary Family History Research of records from the Archdiocese of Cashel.
Have a good trip
Best

That wont be a prob. I will try and find some mention of him in the civil registry office in Dublin first.
A lot of our  civil records were destroyed in the Custom house attack during the War Of Independence and more again from the Four Courts Offices during the Civil War. If They are there I should be able to find some trace.

Maureen,

Searched the indexes in the office in Dublin for George W Robinson marrying abt 1883. I searched from 1880 to 1888 but couldn't find anything.  Neither could I find a birth cert for him. However you note that he was born in 1863 and the records for civil registrations only commence at 1864. I searched a couple of years around that date but nothing. Your brick wall is proving more difficult than the Berlin Wall to crack.
As regards Johanna Doyle. Yes the gravestone in Waterford shows an incorrect date as we expected. Johanna died on 14 June 1914 in the Union Hospital Waterford. Cause of death as far as I can make out is down as 'Mitral Disease/General oedema certified'
Regarding the grave at the chapel of ease. Her daughter Mary power (died 1929 aged 67 yrs) and Bridget Power - daughter of Mary (died 1938 aged 33) Christy Power (died 7 April 1979) and his wife
Josie Spain are also in the same grave. Margaret Barrett (nee Power died 13 Dec 1974) is also in the same graveyard but not same grave.
I will keep an eye out for the Robinson side as I begin to fill in more of my tree. Hopefully that wall will be scaled.

Ambrose

Ambrose,

Thank you for your search. It was quite generous of you to look so extensively for George. We know he was a compositor on his immigration papers and I believe that was noted on his sons birth record. He did work in the printing business here, so hopefully that rules out that he changed his name and was on the run from the constables.
His son, John Joseph's birth record April 21, 1885, notes Arundel Square, Waterford. He was their only child born in Ireland, Catherine and John remained in Waterford for 3 years after George left for America. I would not be suprised if Mary Powers was his Godmother.
I have attached John's picture as he would be a distant cousin of yours.
Thank you for all the information on the Mary Powers family. My mother, who is 90. has so enjoyed hearing anything I find out about her grandmothers family. They were very close.
Hopefully, some day I'll make it over there and pay my respects at the gravesite in person. If you ever get a snapshot of the memorial stone I would love a copy.
Thank you again, Maureen
