Hello Martyn,

This topic will explain how to apply for post-1921 service records:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,154824.0.html

Apparently there is a long wait at the moment.

By the way, I Googled "Crossways House, Hellingly" and although there isn't a lot of info about, I had the feeling that it may have been some sort of institution around the time that your father was born, unless his mother was on the staff.

Hi Martyn,

All I have managed to find out about Crossways House so far is from someone else's research where a 19 yr old girl from Ireland travelled there to have her baby - and put a father's name on cert -as if she was married -and she wasn't!!!

I'll keep looking.

Re Military records - Phil has given you a good link - many of the surviving WW1 records are on An*****y but not WW2 -yet.

The Armed forces boards on here have some very knowledgable RootsChatters willing to help

hi, i received this from Martyn, he is on the road and i am going to retype what he has sent me, assuming he has received some certificates...i will try my best to answer questions, he may access on the road, not sure

Charles Edward moon - Martyn's grandfather b. 20/7/1853 chiddingly Sussex, his father William moon and his mother Mary moon (formerly Taegu?)

Winifred moon b. 28/11/1910 123 church st., eastbound, her father Charles Edward moon general dealer and mother Annie Elizabeth moon (formerly Morrison)

Charles Edward moon b. 19/4/1907 21 Dennis rd. eastbound, his father Charles Edward moon and mother Annie Elizabeth moon (formerly Morrison)

Frederick moon (Martyn's father) b. 18/11/1914 crossways house, hellingly, father Charles Edward moon, broad oak, heathfield and mother Annie Elizabeth moon (formerly Morrison) crossways house, hellingly

Martyn says it is starting to fit in to the little he knows suspecting that his father Frederick was looked after by relatives or foster parents in paignton, Devon

we know about Frederick's birth info. before, along with his marriage but the death certificate around 1978 could be ordered,

Frederick's grandfather William moon marriage to Mary Taegu can be ordered once registration is found c. 1830 along with his death, and look for census info. along with Mary's birth and death ( i did not have that William and Mary on my moon tree) so we are back 1 more generation

we have tried to find Frederick's father Charles Edward moon to Annie Elizabeth marriage to no avail yet, need to find their deaths also

and it is hard to find when women like Winnifred )Frederick's sister) marriage due to being female, it looks like these moon's moved within eastbound during those 3 years when Charles and Winnifred were born, so maybe the marriage of Fred's brother Charles to violet h norman will be worth ordering now, along with his death and the birth of Ruth and rose

i need to have supper then do 1 thing and i will be back to try to find some census and registration info.
