Jewish family Jacobs
« on: Monday 04 January 10 15:20 GMT (UK) »
Searching for Jacobs family, probably Glasgow.  Daughter Emma noted in 1901 census as born Scotland 1871, visiting Bedford at time of census.  Can't find her - maybe another forename?

No Emma Jacobs anywhere on the 1881 for Scotland

There is an Emma Jacob b 1868 Glasgow on the 1881.  The full image is available to view on SP which is a paysite.  www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

If you follow the instructions below - some of the christenings are on the IGI.  Frederika'a maiden name was  GOLDSTANDT

PARENT SEARCH ON IGI

www.familysearch.org - On home page - click on  “Advanced Search” to the right of the SEARCH button

Select “International Genealogical Index” from the left hand menu

Input fathers name and surname BUT only put mothers christian name as not all entries have the maiden name

REGION – select British Isles from the menu

COUNTRY – select Scotland

COUNTY (will appear when you select COUNTRY)  – select Lanark

Click SEARCH

Hi  :)

Just to clarify that the ones showing on the IGI would be from the birth registrations that have been transcribed by the LDS 1855-1875 . I don't think  that Jewish families would have their children christened and I'm not sure where any records would be for Scottish Jews. There must be someone on here who would know.

Hi Gadget

Good point - and I have learnt something new.  I had assumed that all LDS transcriptions were from Christening records and didn't know they had transcribed just birth registrations from 1855-1875.

Thanks for that

 :)

The LDS have transcribed the marriages as well for the same period - a very good source and saves credits on SP until the record is identified  :)

I've also learnt about the Scottish Jewish Archive. I'm not sure that there's anything online but at least there's an address and tel number .

Thanks to you both for all that.  I think she may have been Esther, born 12/2/1868 in Glasgow.  Her father's birthplace fits in with other stuff I have.  She opened a hat shop in Glasgow called Emma Jay(e) so might have changed her name for "professional" reasons!
