Pannell family, Arundel
« on: Monday 04 January 10 13:34 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace my 3x great-grandfather, Charles Pannell. His son, also Charles, was born in 1830/31 and married and settled in Devon. Charles junior is recorded on the 1891 census (the only one I can find him on) as being born in Arundel. Charles senior is recorded on his son's marriage certificate from 1855 as a farmer.

Can anyone advise on how i can proceed? I am in Devon so access to parish registers isn't possible. My search is also hindered by the fact that the family is also recorded as Pannel, Panell and Parnell.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Kind regards

Devon: Thorne, Drew, Lugger, Yeo, Yeoman, Pannell, March
W.Sussex: Pannell
Glamorgan: Yeo, Foley
Waterford: Foley

No problem Lorraine :)

Hopefully I will have more for you tomorrow afternoon.

I notice there is a member submitted record on the IGI for Charles Pannell baptised St Peter the Great Chichester 19 Feb 1796 parents Thomas and Charlotte - I will check that as well.

Hi Lorraine

St Peter the Great Chichester
Baptism 10 Feb 1796 Charles Pannell son of  Thomas and Charlotte

I couldn't see any siblings for him

Arundel

Baptisms

29 Sep 1822 John Pannel son of Charles and Susanna Labourer
11 Apr 1824 Jane Pannell dau of Charles and Susanna Labourer
4 Dec 1825 Charlotte Pannel dau Charles and Susanna Labourer
4 May 1828 Charles Pannel son of Charles and Susanna Arundel Labourer
17 Aug 1830 Susan and Anne Pannell daus of Charles and Susan Arundel Labourer

Burials
15 May 1823 John Pannell 8mths
31 Jan 1831 Susanne Pannel 4mths
2 Jan 1833 Susanna Pannell 30
9 Jan 1841 Thomas Pannell 82
5 Nov 1842 Charlotte Pannell 67
2 Apr 1863 Charles Pannell 65
5 Jun 1863 Elizabeth Pannell 75

Elizabeth must have been Charles senior's second wife. It looks like his parents moved to Arundel.

Happy to have helped :)

And thank you for the offer - I may well take you up on it one day

Regards
Jan ;)

I've just had a look on the IGI and see why I couldn't find siblings for Charles it seems Thomas and Charlotte moved first to Appledram and then to Arundel between Sep 1805 and May 1808. There is also a probable marriage in Chichester for them and a possible first marriage for Thomas. If you need anything more checking I will be going to the Records Office again probably Feb.
