Don't have a Mac, but my elderly laptop is becoming increasingly obsolescent, so am beginning to look for some form of replacement, and would like to be as reliable and versatile as possible.

@ redroger - if you're talking about replacing said laptop, then Mac v Wintel is a whole different set of arguments and considerations - and will also doubtless generate a stack of opinions from supporters of both.

Fair comment! I will make further enquiries and if needed return to this subject in future.

The Mac v PC arguement has always generated heated arguements & debate & I`m sure will for years to come....Much like the Amiga v Atari ST arguements.

I`ve never used a Mac so can`t even debate the question, but I have found a nice series of Blogs by PCPro Magazine.....

Quote
".....our experiment to see whether Windows 7 can convert a hardened Mac user, Chris Brennan tries to get to grips with...."

Makes interesting reading...the blogs aren`t to long & it seems relatively unbiased....although the comments made by readers seem to follow the usual form of Mac v PC arguements on the whole.

I think it's true to say that many Mac owners also own a Windows PC, to run the software that you can't get for the Mac.

I use a Mac laptop with VM Fusion installed.  this means it functions as both a Mac and a PC.
I know...it was a very expensive present for a very big birthday from the whole family and also meant it was socks for Christmas!!
I would however support the argument that Snow Leopard is slower than a PC. Not much slower though.
I've always used PC's at work and a Mac at home and although now retired I still use PC environment for some things. Usually programmes that won't run on a Mac.
However if I had to choose it's a Mac for me but it is as someone has already said it's a matter of personal choice.

There's also Parallels software, which is somewhat like VM Fusion. Apple stores tend to offer it - but would be interesting to find an honest comparison.

I would like a FH programme for a mac though - any suggestions?

The widely-used genealogy program for the Mac is Reunion:

There's also Heredis and iFamily but I don't know how up-to-date they are:
