1861 census for Joseph Cook(e) s/o William
« on: Thursday 31 December 09 16:44 GMT (UK) »
1861 census  - Can anyone trace Joseph Cook(e) b.c.1857 s/o William Cooke please?

In 1881, 91 and 1901 he was b.c 1857 at Sheffield.
He married (aged 21) Annie Lunt 29.3.1877 at Wolstanton, Staffs and gave his father's occupation as an engineer. Deceased.

I have checked ancestry.co.uk and Find Past with no obvious entries.
Not being familiar with Yorkshire or Staffs I am at a loss!

Many thanks.
frek.

They are definitely called Cooke ten years earlier ...

1851

Wolstanton HO107/2002 Folio 220 Page 35

William Cooke Head M 24 ? Engineer Cheshire Barthomley
Olive do Wife M 20 Stafford Wolstanton

Kidgrove (?), Wolstanton

In the last quarter of 1849 there was a marriage at St John, Goldenhill between a William Cook and an Olive Chadwick, which might be relevant.

ps I cannot read the word preceding "Engineer" for William but he is, without doubt, an Engineer of some kind.

In the first quarter of 1868 at Sheffield, I think an Olive Cook married a John Jones.

I also think that they appear on the 1871 census at Wolstanton RG10/2844 Folio 27 Page 47 and that Joseph Cooke is listed as Joseph Coogle (on Ancestry)

Births Mar 1857
Cook  Joseph     Sheffield  9c 349
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth
