William Potts, St John Lee
« on: Wednesday 30 December 09 19:15 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can sort this out for me.  The issue is that I have found information on what could possibly be my ancestor.  Trouble is, there seems to be 2 different people born with the same name in the same month with different fathers.  Here is what I have:

Possibility 1:
William Potts Birth: About 1744 Of Lee, Saint Oswald, Northumberland, England
Marriage:05 DEC 1769 Lee Saint John, Northumberland, England
Mary Burdus Birth: About 1748 Of Lee, Saint Oswald, Northumberland, England
Marriage: 05 DEC 1769 Lee Saint John, Northumberland, England

Children
Ann Potts Christening: 30 SEP 1770 Lee Saint John, Northumberland, England
Jane Potts Christening: 29 NOV 1772 Lee Saint John, Northumberland, England
Mary Potts Christening: 19 MAR 1775 Lee Saint John, Northumberland, England
William Potts Christening: 03 AUG 1777 Lee Saint John, Northumberland, England

Possibility 2:
WM. POTTS Christening: 24 AUG 1777 Lee Saint John, Northumberland, England
Father: THOS. POTTS

The William I am looking for gets married to Ann Leadbittter on 05 Aug 1805 and has children named Thomas (1806), George (1809) and Arnold (1811, I think).
Can anyone assist?
Jim Potts

Hi Jim,
On IGI there is another christening was Ann Potts to William Potts and Ann Leadbitter on 24 Dec 1807, Stonecroft with Hexham-Rc, Hexham, Northumberland.
Haven't found anything more though although I would suggest the second was the most likely according to the names.
Could the other William have married Susannah Stevenson 26 Mar 1803, Lee st John? Their children were Mary and William b. Haydon Bridge.
