RFA Hull & Sculcoates
« on: Wednesday 30 December 09 13:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi :)

This is also for Waterloo.

Walter Varney of my other post, was in the Royal Field Artillery in WW!.  I decided to try and keep the military part separate.

I can post on a separate board eventually, but I'm wondering if there were any links between the RFA and Hull or any specific organisations or if there is or was a base in Hull andwhere any archives might be.

Best wishes

Emms :)

Hi Emms

re RFA and Hull.
My grandfather joined the Army in 1915 at the Hull central recruiting office and enlisted in the 38 "Hull" DIV.AMM COL. RFA .
I don't know if this information is of any value to you.

Best wishes
Eric

Hi :) Eric

Thank you very much!

That might well explain why he came to be in the RFA rather than the East Yorkshire Reg.

Definitely merits more investigation.  I don't suppose you know where the records are, do you?  Are they just with other military?

Thank you again"!

Hi Emms
I'm sure I just downloaded them from A2A I think it only cost about £3. Well worth it though for 20 pages of info. Including his AWOL naughty boy. In his letter of application he did say he had worked with horses so it could explain why he went into the RFA as did yours.
Best wishes

Emms I have to say thats the most comprehensive Military record I've seen. I just had a few remains of charred paper on the one I needed most.
You could almost write your family tree from the information on those military records of yours.
