Shonagh,

I have a copy of the Monumental Inscriptions for St. Mary's Burial Ground, New Walk, Beverley.

I cannot find any inscriptions for the name Freebury, but there is a monumental inscription for the following

William Gibson died 1916 aged 81
Mary Elizabeth Gibson died 1921 aged 80

William and Mary are buried together.

Ellen May Westoby died 1891 aged 72
John Westoby died 1909 aged 90

Ellen and John are buried together.

There are also several for the name Westerby if this could be a variation on the surname.

If you would like the full details of either of the above monumental inscriptions, let me know and I will be more than happy to post the details.

I also have a transcript of Beverley Lairgate Independent Chapel Baptisms 1780 - 1837.  There are records of the baptism of 2 children in 1780 and 1782 whose parents are recorded as Christopher and Ellin Westaby and there are also records of the baptism of 5 children between 1813 and 1819 whose parents are recorded as Richard and Sarah Westoby.

If you would like the details of baptism records just let me know.

Best Wishes
CJL

Thank you very much for this information.  I am very sorry for not thanking you earlier but following my post we had a major problem with our computer and have only just got up and running again on a new computer!

I would be grateful if you could let me have the full inscriptions for William and Mary Gibson and for Ellen and John Westoby.

Thanks again.  Much appreciated.  I think this site is so good and people are so helpful.

Hi Shonagh

I have found several MI entries for the names you were asking for. Are there any particular ones you want or all of them?

Cheers

Hi CJL

I notice you have the baptisms for Lairgate Chapel and wondered if you could check some entries for me?

They are all for Watson's between 1797 and 1813. I particularily interseted in any parents names as I have twelve Watson's who are probably the same family but not all were baptised at Lairgate but at the Minster.

You wouldn't happen to have the marriages for around 1795 to 98 would you?

If you can help that would be great.

Cheers

Ian

Many thanks top CJL for the inscriptions - they are a very usuful addition to my tree.

Thank you to Ian for the offer for the Lairgate Independent Inscriptions - I don't think they can be my family as mine were all strict CofE and I am assuming the Lairgate Independent would be a non-conformist church?  Am I correct with that thinking?

Thanks to all

Shongagh

Hi Shongagh

Yes I think that Lairgate Chapel was non-conformist, however I think you have mis interperated my reply.

I was semi hijacking your topic to ask CJL if they could look up some baptisms for me as they said they had the records.

I say semi because I was also refering to my post of 20th Jan meaning I was the person who posted the look up offer.

Sorry if that caused confusion but following on from that...

I've got MI's for most of Beverley's burial grounds and they have quite a few entries for the names you listed. Would you like the names or all the details?

Let me know

Cheers

Hello again Ian

Don't worry - it's not difficult to confuse me!

Yes, do let me have the MIs that you have for Freebury, Westoby and Gibson.  If you have any for Roxby I would also be grateful.

Many thanks

Shonagh
