Amy Hoyle/Hankin/Mcintrye?
« on: Sunday 27 December 09 23:47 GMT (UK) »
One of my ancestors, Amy born abt 1874 in Bootle, Lancs, but I cannot find her properly before her marrriage to Thomas Hankin, born 1858 in Ford, Lancs, in 1893. I think I have a birth record for her as Amy Hoyle with the above detials, but I cannot find a cenus with her under that name.
The name McIntrye has also been linked with her, either though another marriage for her, or her parents, but again no luck with the cenus on that name, and she was only 19 when she married Thomas, and he didn't die young so I don't think she remarried.
How can I sovle which surname is has and who her parents are without ordering a marriage cert for her and Thomas?
Is anyone on here related to her though any of the surnames?
Thanks in advance.

Hello

This link shows Amy Hoyle in 1881.

She is listed as Anne Hoyle on the transcript but the original census sheet definitely says Amy. Elizabeth Hoyle married Edward Higham in the third quarter of 1876 at St. Alban, Liverpool.

I think that Amy’s parents were John Hoyle and Mary, late Robinson, formerly Higham.

Mary Higham married James Robinson in 1857.

She then married John Hoyle in 1867 (and then Robert McTear in 1877). John Hoyle had also been married previously.

On the 1881 census Edward Higham is Mary’s brother (and Elizabeth Hoyle was her step daughter)

Thank you so much for all this info, I will piece it all together later and find out for sure who's who. This is certainly turning out to be interesting!

Hello,

I am Amy (nee Hoyle) Hankin's great grandaughter. I have just seen the postings about her and thought I'd chip in with my limited knowledge. The information on this site matches mine - the Hoyles, Highams, Stanistreets etc. Took me ages to realise that Mary McTear was Mary Higham/Robinson!
My uncle lived with Amy and Thomas Hankin until Amy became ill and wrote an interesting book about his life. He seemed to believe she was Irish, but I've gone back to the 1700's with the family and found nothing Irish there. Possibly thought Robert McTear was a blood relative, perhaps. I have a lovely photo of her looking very serene, despite her reported fiery temper!
I've traced the Hankin and Balshaw branches back to Ormskirk, Lancs circa 1650, as well as the Roby, Spencer and Pilkington lines. Always happy to share info.
