Elsie Whittam of Burnley ??? help please

I am trying to find any information on a auntie of mine called Elsie Whittam, born in 1907 she was my dad's half sister unfortunately my father never knew of her as he died in 2004..

She was the daughter of my Grandad Richard Whittam ,her mother was Mary Hannah Greenwood.

I found them on the 1911 census,she was 3 yrs old, i believe her parents divorced in 1922.
My Grandad then got with my Grandma and had 3 more children but had them out of wedlock, as my father took his mothers surname..

I have conflicting possibilities of what happened to Elsie one report states a Elsie's death in Burnley in 1923 which would be age correct ,but also there is a marriage of a Elsie Whittam who marries a David J Kerr in 1931 which would make her 24 yrs old which also could be correct.

If anyone has any info it would be appreciated

I think the 1923 death is probably the right one.  Although there were earlier Elsie Whittam births in Burnley plus one in 1910 - that 1923 death is the only one fitting her birthyear

She was born in the December qtr of 1907 and died in the March qtr 1923 aged 15 which is spot on

However, if you wanted to check out the 1931 marriage - this option will cost you £3 at least and £7 at most:

Send for a copy of the 1931 marriage cert but put a condition on the application that you only want it if her fathers name was Richard

If it's the wrong one - they will only charge you a £3 search fee but will issue a certificate costing you £7 if it's the right one

I have just received a Marriage certificate for Violet Whittam to Philip Hutchinson. Violet's father is named as Richard Whittam. I looked for the birth of a Violet Whittam and found a birth for 1916 whose mother's maiden name was Greenwood and I then found a marriage for a Mary Hannah Greenwood to Richard Whittam in 1907 and subsequently found the 1911 census as you had with Richard and Mary and a daughter Elsie in Burnley Lancashire.

I'm trying to find out more about Violet and Philip's children etc.  If your Grandfather was the same Richard Whittam then it would mean that your father would have been a half sister to Violet. Did he know her and her children?

Well i am absolutely astounded at that news, i never knew of a Violet Whittam, all i was aware of was that they had Elsie in 1907 and she passed away in 1923 of Pneumonia.
My father had no idea of Elsie and obviously now Auntie Violet,how sad that he never knew,as my father himself passed away in 2004.He has 2 living sister's though Enid and Irene to my Grandma though Edna Turner
She never married my Grandad Richard reason unknown,think he may of been a bit of a cad..
I am subscribed to  ancestry i will have a look in the files see if i can find some children as you mentioned see what i can come up with...

Just found a daughter of Violet and Philip
She is called Wendy V Hutchinson and she was born in 1941 in Wallasey,Cheshire

Wendy then marries a Niels H Jensen in 1968 in Wallasey..

I am just going to look for any children she may of had ,if you dont mind me asking Gillian have you got a connection to the Whittams would love to know.

I will get back to you as soon as i find any more info

found the death reg of Violet in 1986
Could not find any children of Wendy and Niels, strange will keep looking
