Mt Moriah Cemetery Philadelphia County
« on: Sunday 27 December 09 00:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi there

I have searched many sites and not found any details regarding burials for my Montgomery's in Mt Moriah. I have a headstone photo with a Montgomery who died 1923, included is another Montgomery and the name Getty who died 1941, the rest of the headstone is covered by bush. I see that Mr Moriah is not online. How would I find out the details for these people?

Regards

I have relatives buried in Mount Moriah and was horrified to see what's happened to the place. There's a fantastic website which looks as though it's going to be updated-
http://mountmoriahcemetery.org/

Some transcription images there (click on 'Images' on right side of page). Also use the 'search' box to see if you can find anything.

P.S. if you are easily upset best not to look at other photos of damage and neglect.

Hi aghadowey

Thank you for your quick response. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.  :)  I've had a quick look on the site you gave me, thank you.  Isn't it disappointing to see such neglect.

Hi Lil Growler

I run the Mount Moriah website; it is entirely voluntarily run, so it is far from complete.  Any contributions you could make - photos, biographies of interments, etc would be greatly appreciated and added to the Mount Moriah Cemetery Encyclopedia, found here:  http://mountmoriah.info/

I checked my database, and there are ~262 Montgomery's in the cemetery, with several being buried in 1923.  Do you have any more detail from the stones?  I could tell you where and when they were buried, if you can narrow it down.

Is Getty a surname?  There are 32 Getty's in the database; let me know if you have any info to narrow it down.

Also, note that there is a Rootsweb mailing list for Mount Moriah with many helpful people subscribed; they maybe able to help you in your research as well.

Regards,

John

Morning John

Welcome to rootschat and thank you for your reply. It is a wonderful task you have set yourself in complinig information and photos on Mt Moriah.

I'm not sure how helpful this may be but the Montgomerys and Getty ( surname ) are buried next to Alexander Sterrett 1872 - 1944, his first wife Annie Wallace 1873 - 1899 and his daughter Annie M 1899 - 1904, Also buried with the Sterretts is a Mary Mullholland 1878 - 1941. I found these details on the Find A Grave site. Their headstone is also included in my photo and obscured by bush Alexanders second wife Anna M Montgomery is buried elsewhere. Martha L McBride (nee Sterrett) may be buried in the same location, she is in a single grave.

Getty has a middle initial either C or G and looks to be either Jr or Lt at the end of the name.

Thank you

Regards

Hi John

I have a another headstone shot for the following.

Would you happen to have any further details for :

William C Getty born and died 1941.
J Montgomery born 1922 and died 1923
and F Montgomery born 1885 and died 1902.

I believe J maybe for a John and F for a Fanny.

Thank you

I remember at the time (Dec.2009) that I started to set up an account on the Mt. Moriah website in order to add family details but was reluctant to do so as your user name is apparently your real name.

Hello,
Is there anyone out there to do lookups for Mt. Moriah??
At this point I don't have any idea who to address the question
to.
Attached is a photo of the grave. James Purves and Isabella Robertson
Purves.Woops, Can't do it on this board.
Gala Lass
PS. Which place do I go to attach the picture? It says you can't
attach to county boards so where can I??
