Thanx so much to everyone who offers me advice and tells me about links etc..... Its all very much appreciated and I do apologise in advance for bein ignorant and not knowin how to do things properly but I will try not to test anyones patience too much  :-\

yeah I think you may be right.
My mother is oldest daughter of robert cooke, who was son of james cooke and mary jane power.
I have been corresponding with ethel duncan (who was illegittimate daughter of sarah cooke, my grandads sister)  on the family farm in ireland but she has not replied to my last letter from almost 6mth ago so I am stuck.
I am getting plenty info on the cooke family but my problem is with mary jane power side of family which emmigrated to america Im told.
Any help people could offer would be much appreciated
