Turners of Tipton
« on: Friday 25 December 09 13:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi all and a Merry Christmas.

I am trying desperately to trace my family and I have found them in the 1901 census.
John Turner   47
Elizabeth Turner  57
Gertie Turner  13
Henry Turner  24
Walter Turner  20
All living at
281 Dudley Port Tipton

Gertie was my Grandmother and she married Thomas Humphries. I have tried tracing all of the family via Ancestry but to no avail. There seems to be no trace of them at all, or am I looking in the wrong place. I live in France so I only have access via the internet to records. Any help or where to look next would be very much appreciated

Are you trying trace them backwards or forwards?

Not sure if you already have this but here they are in 1891:

Hi Ruskie and thanks for the quick reply. Now my next question. I can see that the reference is to the census but how do I get that?. I know..... I am a bit slow still. By the way I am going back.

Hi humpy and merry christmas  :)

i take it the 1901 you have is RG13/2736/161/21.  do you have them on the 1911 where Eliza Gertrude is living at her parents house at 50 Dudley Port,Tipton with her husband and their 3 children?
John Turner's birthplace is given as Winchcombe,Gloucestershire and it states he's been married 38years and had 12 children, 5 surviving, 7 died  :(
Think the 1881 census for them is RG11/2896/57/4 living at High Street,Kingswinford

hope thats right, regards,

Tony

If you wish to look up census reference's on Ancestry,  click on "Home" to get the main page up then select the census year you wish to look up under "UK Census Records" at top right of screen which should then open up a "Year" search screen, you can then imput the census reference at the bottom of the search box and click search!
hope that helps,

Tony  :)

Thanks for the tips and information. I have traced the Turners to the Winchcombe link so thanks Tony. It has also led to another branch of the family that leads to the Pennsylvania in the 1760s so sucess all round.

Hi Tony,

Do you know where your relatives are laid to rest? The only reason I ask is because I run my own Grave Tending Company in the area called Remembering You and with the dates that you have shown they could be laid to rest in possably five graveyards in the area.
