Kilfeather family
« on: Wednesday 23 December 09 22:45 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm trying to trace a marriage or any information on Margaret Brennan of Finglas who married a man by the name of Kilfeather from Sligo in about the late 19thC or very early 20thC.  Apparently Margaret went to live in Sligo for the rest of her life.
Would anyone have any suggestions about how to go about this?
A stumbling block is that we're in Australia so i'm unable to actually visit libraries, archives, etc.

Welch (Dublin)
Moore (Portadown)
Williams (Cornwall)

Have you found them in the 1911 census yet? Married woman were asked how many years married which gives you a starting point.
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search

Next step is to check civil registration index (goes up to 1921 for Republic of Ireland) under each name and then cross-reference results for matching details.
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347

After that you can order the marriage certificate.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Possible marriage

James Kilfeather and Margaret Brennan
Year and Quarter: Oct-Dec 1912
Registration District: Dublin North
Volume 2 Page 448

One possible Margaret Brennan of Finglas in 1911 Census

Margaret Brennan 1911 Census

There is a Brennan family living next door also

John Brennan 1911 Census

These are the two most likely James Kilfeather's in the census

Gerard,
Thanks for that; the family at House number 15 is the Brennan family that i'm working on, so Brennan's at House number 14 would make sense.

Might be a few difficulties with the margaret from the census being the one that i'm looking for; the way i read the household record is that Charles O'Brien is the head of the house; Margaret O'Brien is his wife; Thomas Brennan is Margaret O'Brien's brother and he happened to marry another Margaret, making Thomas and Margaret Brennan Charles O'Brien's brother and sister in law.  So, that means that both Margarets are already married and there's no sign of a Kilfeather.

Working from what i know, Margaret O'Brien would have been from the generation before the margaret that i'm looking for.

However, the marriage for James Kilfeather and Margaret Brennan makes sense, but i wonder where she was for the census?  Unless she was away from Finglas for work.

Hello!
what an amazing thing the internet is as i had just about given up on finding Margaret Brennan.  I have been researching the Brennan family and have been following all the families of the brennan siblings, including attempting to find out more about Margaret.  For a large part of my research i wasn't even sure that she existed as she didn't appear in any records, just family memories.  I would be very happy to receive anything you would care to send me regarding Margaret and James.  If its easier my email is (*).

Hope to hear from you soon.

I have very little information on Margaret, my present searchs are on the male lines of my parents, easier to access info as  both Sligo families.
