Deportation of Thomas EMERY in 1844

sorry not to sure how this site works

I have come across your posting on roots chat whilst trying to look up info on Thomas Emery son of Isaac Emery and Elizabeth croot he was born in potton in 1827. I am the great great granddaughter of Thomas's older brother James Emery 1824.

would love to hear from an emery that is alive

where do you both fit it to the emery intangled web.

With regard to leaving Mary out of the will it may be that she had already had money/property given her.  It is more usual under those circumstances to state the reason for a child not inheriting, however this would be a 'nice' reason for the other children inheriting.

Thomas's parents were my 2x maternal great grandparents Isaac was born in abt.1798 in Potton Bedfordshire UK,he was an Agricultural Labourer as were most of the family, and Elizabeth b.abt.1800 inGamblingay Cambridgeshire,they had 10 children of which Thomas b.1822/27 was the eldest,he wa transported to Australiafor 10 years  in 1844 aged17 for stealing fowls and potatoes.hisyounger brother James was also at regular intervals a guest of the realm ranging from stealing to assault,he was sentenced on one to 5yrs.imprisonment for what was a particularly nasty attack on his third wife,lucky not to have been transported dont you think,the next brother William b.abt.1827 can also be found to be in Australia but as yet haven't managed to find out much about him the state of Victoria are a bit mean with the sccess to their files,the interesting fact about these two brothers is that they both died in Ballarat NSW in 1878,possibly some sort of accident,as for the rest of the children I am slowly working my way through them with not a lot of joy as yet.

I have a fair amount of information on the Emery family I have traced them back to1548 with the bare bones but not a lot of meat as yet

Thomas Emery was my G-G grandfather.He did marry Johanna Gorman .One of their daughters, another Johanna, married a William James Tait whom I believe was the son of the John Tate(original spelling) transported to Australia on the "Eden" in 1848 for stealing woollen cloth in 1847 and his wife Catherine Mahony an Irish Famine orphan sent to Australia aged only 15 in 1849.The daughter of William James Tait and Johanna Emery was my grandmother Veronica Tait (1900-1979).According my research Thomas was sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania ) and was pardoned in 1852-53. In the 1847 Tasmanian Convict Muster he is said to be working at a Mr. Mansfield's at Glenorchy which is now a suburb of Hobart. I would bw interested in any information on Thomas' English family.
