HI judith,
Thanks for expanding on the information I gave Millie in #4.

As I said then, I am unsure whether she has this early information or not.

Hopefully she will be back to us soon.

THOMAS EMERY left a Wil when he died in 1878.

It is digitised for reading

He leaves his farm and assets at Clarendon to Johanna and makes provision for his 6 or 7 children.

He was not able to write and signs with a carefully witnessed cross.

Interesting reading :)

In his Will, Thomas refers more than once to his eldest child MARY.

She does not appear on the list of offspring on the family tree reply #7, and must have been born before 1860 as this is the birthdate given for his first listed child JOHN.

In Vic pioneers,  can see birth of 5 kids,
John  1860,  Johanna 1863,  Susan 1865,  Isaac 1867 and Thomas in 1874

Bit of a gap in btw  1867 and 1874  maybe Mary fits in there ?

Hi Daizi,
He clearly says  when he writes in Dec.  1876

"... equal divide between the six younger children  and the  oldest child    Mary..." To be left out by my request

Not my eldest daughter

So that is an interesting one :D

Sue

EDIT to show exclusion of the Mary from the Will

Hi,
I have edited my post to show that his will appears to state that MARY is excluded.

Apologies for tangled postings :D

Yes he says it twice. Disowned, or not of he and his wife, maybe.  :'(

Hi Millie
Thomas Emery was my G-G grandfather. He did marry Johanna Gorman .One of their daughters, another Johanna, married a William James Tait whom I believe was the son of the John Tate(original spelling) transported to Australia  on the "Eden" in 1848 for stealing woollen cloth in 1847 and his wife Catherine Mahony an Irish Famine orphan sent to Australia aged only 15 in 1849.The daughter of William James Tait  and Johanna Emery was my grandmother Veronica Tait (1900-1979).According my research Thomas was sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania ) and was pardoned in 1852-53. In the 1847 Tasmanian Convict Muster he is said to be working at a Mr. Mansfield's at Glenorchy which is now a suburb of Hobart. I would bw interested in any information on Thomas' English family.
Regards Paul
