Hi millie,
Thomas Emery's name does not appear on the register of burials at Ballarat Cemetery in 1878.

There are other Emery's at the cemeteries of Ballarat, but not Thomas, nor any other Emery, dying in 1878.

There are also Gorman's at the cemeteries including  a Johanna, but she is of a different age group to yours.

Perhaps you have his death certificate and already know his burial place :)

Hi Sue,
Thanks for your reply,Thomas Emery was the son of my 2x Grt.paternal grandparents,he was born in Potton Bedfordshire Uk in 1826 and died in 1878 i haven't any proof of this date and as yet I am searching on ancestry, he was sentenced  on 2nd July 1844 at the Bedfordshire assizes
and was sentenced to transportation for 10yrs for stealing chickens and potatoes.
He was transported on Pestonjee Bomanjee and was sent to Van Dieman's Land .married Johanna Gorman,I dont at the moment have any details on her except that she died in Ballarat Victoria in 1878.
Any further information  would help in the  search of my family,i seem to have as many relatives in Australia as I had here
Regards

A search of this site will show his arrivalas a convict and his departure after his sentence to the mainland state of Victoria possibly in the Gold rush to Ballarat..

I would suggest his marriage to JOHANNA may have been  in Victoria.

Again, I am not sure whether you already have these particulars. :)

Looks like your family: http://www.netspeed.com.au/dryandra1/pvmiles%20html/fam/fam02558.html

From a general search, it looks like your Johanna will be of Irish origin.

Tasmainian convct lists

http://www.archives.tas.gov.au/nameindexes

Thomas EMERY who had arrived on the Pestongee Bomangee left Launceston (Tasmania) for Melbourne 28 Jan 1854, aboard the ship Lady Bird.  His status was 'conditional pardon", Ref POL220/1/3 p445.  He is not listed as having asked for permmission to marry which would indicate (plus the date of marriage you gave) that he did not marry in Tasmania.
