Lyon - Lancaster

Hello Listers,

I am trying to find the father of Edward Lyon who was born on 8th February 1821 and christened at Lancaster St Marys on 7th March 1821. The christening record just states his mother's name of Mary Lyon. I do not know whether this means he is illegitimate, or whether the christening was just attended by his mother. His marriage certificate does not name a father.

My problem is that I have looked through the parish and Bishop's transcripts for Lancaster St Marys and other neighbouring churches and have found very few Lyons in the area. Therefore, I have not found any record of a Mary Lyon either (just in case Edward was illegitimate).

I should be extremely grateful of any suggestions of where to look next.

if you go onto www.lan-opc.org.uk/  and enter Lyon you may be able to get some leads.I would say thet Mary was a single mum from the entry.There is also aMary Lyon born Warton on this site who may be worth considering
