BYRNE/NEILL marriage Co Wexford
« on: Monday 21 December 09 06:06 GMT (UK) »
I have come to a brick wall, so am seeking any kind of help.
Andrew BYRNE and Margaret NEILL married 15/2/1829 Oulart, Co Wexford.  I have the marriage record but there is no address shown, nor parents or witnesses recorded.  They were both Roman Catholic.
They had 5 children (as far as I know) - Patrick b.15/1/1833 Slinegrawn; Matthew b.21/1/1835 Oulart; James b.19/5/1837 Oulart; Mary b.3/3/1844 and Thomas b.22/1/1846 Oulart.

Can anyone tell me where Slinegrawn is?
Also need some help in tracking the children.  Matthew married Frances Jordan and they migrated to Australia, but this is the only line I have been able to trace.

I don't see a Slinegrawn but there is a Slievenagrane in Castle-ellis civil parish Enniscorthy PLU that could be a possibility.

I'm not having much luck with Slievenagrane.  Just comes up as a cottage for sale in Enniscorthy.  Definitely says Slinegrawn on the birth record.

Is there an old church or cemetery at Oulart?

Slievenagrane is just a little south of Oulart see linkhttp://www.maplandia.com/ireland/south-east/wexford/oulart/
There seems to be two cemeteries in Oulart the newer is adjoining St Patrick's church which is about 100 yrs old - so perhaps it is the older cemetery that may be of interest.

Thanks for that.  Found Slievengrane on the map, and I guess this could be translated from bad handwriting as Slinegrawn.  It's in the same vicinity as Oulart so it's a good possibility.

The older cemetery could be the one to start looking in, although the family could have moved anywhere - as Matthew BYRNE migrated to Australia.

Try this link: http://ims0.osiemaps.ie/website/publicviewer/main.aspx#V1,707876,637594,6

You can toggle between the historic and present day maps or use the Modern Map overlay on the historic maps.

It looks like there were quite a few dwellings in old Slievenagrane.

Dara.

Oulart graveyard is one of the Wexford cemeteries that Brian Cantwell included in his work Memorials of the Dead. See link for further information. If I remember correctly Ian Cantwell is his son?
http://www.iancantwell.com/WWWXnamesindex.pdf

You can search the index for Byrne and Neill surnames and if they show you may be able to get a copy of "Memorials"  in a library. If not you can search for a fee on the Irish origins section of origins.net.   http://www.originsnetwork.com/help/popup-helpio-motdcantwell.htm
As far as I remember the fees are quite reasonable.
