I am seeking information on the Monks family from Dublin.
My g/g/grandfather was Richard Monks, born in 1834. His father was also Richard Monks. Having searched the church records, I know he married Helen Keogh in 1831 in Dublin, but no more.

I have checked the voting registers of Dublin in the 1830's.

Richard Monks is listed as living in Old Kilmanham and as a Farmer.

There are a couple of other Monks also on the list.

Thomas
Denis
Joseph
Laurence
Patrick
William.

If you want any further info please give me a shout

In the 1851 census of Dublin there are also a few Richard Monks

Rich. Monk 34 Vicar St. St. Catherine's South
Rich. Monk 12 Engine Alley St. Catherine's South
Rich. Monks 15 Ship St. Great St. Bridget's South

Interested in your post as my name is also Monks and very involved in family tree at moment. My grandfathe Richard was born in 1876 to what I am 90% certain were parents Patrick and Mary Monks (nee Mary Nolan). Cannot find birth cert for gandfather nor marriage cert for g/grandparents so am now turning to church records. Would you mind indicating what church records you managed to access please ?

Not sure if I should feel happy at your info or deflated. I have a birth cert for a Thomas Monks born to Patrick Monks and Mary Nolan in 1876 and I have a marriage cert for Richard Monks dated 1899 showing a Thomas Monks as Bestman so I am assuming its the same Thomas who was born in 1876. Richard at marriage was 25 years old so makes him born in 1874, two years before Thomas. You have 4 births so am now puzzled as to why records you accessed did not show further births if any of course. If a connection can be made between the 4 births and Richard + Thomas you have opened up a whole new side to family tree and I thank you

IGI has some, not all, Irish births 1864-c1882.
Have you searched for Richard Monks' birth in civil index?

Thanks a lot for link to that index, it has solved a problem with age given on G/fathers marriage cert.
Interested if the 1830's voter register and 1851 Dublin Census you have mentioned in posts is available to general public to browse

Just noticed a gap of 2 years in 1860's and 4 years in 1870's when g/grandparents didnt have children. Will have to find out why !
Thanks again for your great help

No less than12 Monks are listed in the Index to Shaw's Directory 1850. If you require any of these just come back.
