...I have Somervillies from Clogher Diocese too and they are in my tree.

Looks like they are fond of trees!

Without a townland (or family unit) it would be difficult to say for definite which one could be yours. I presume you have their religion which would be a good place to start. Mine were mainly Monaghan.

I have a marriage cert for John Somerville 1871 at the parish of Carnteel it was a plu
I think they were church of Ireland Johns father was Samuel thats as much as I know at the moment as John went to Stirling Scotland soon after he married.

I was told a little story by a relative that the pub across the road from the church where John married had the whole Somerville family tree displayed there ::)
Do the Irish have a similar naming pattern as the Scots?

re; "Do the Irish have a similar naming pattern as the Scots?"

NO WE DON'T...we are far more imaginative!

If we have 4 sons John, James, Robert and Alex and they each have 4 sons they call them John, James, Robert and Alex...and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex and if these sons have 4 sons they each call them John, James, Robert and Alex......

Sue,
I am one of the Roberts in Hallmarks list!!
Yes , the naming pattern was fairly similar, eldest son after Father's father, eldest daughter after Mother' mother etc. But remember this was not written in stone.
