I am trying to find the wife of Albert Percy Lilley. B:1880 in Colchester.
Children: Cecil Albert Lilley B: 1907 D: 1973.
Albert's father is unknown, Mother was Ellen Lilley/Sparrow

If you find them on the 1911 census, or get a birth cert for a child, it will confirm her name.

His birth is on FreeBMD, so easy enough to find his father.

Also he is on 1881 census (free to search) at RG11 1826 130 22 with Lilley grandparents.

1891  is he in the workhouse along with Alfred Lilley 57, Frank 13, Cecil 7 and Ethel 11?

On the marriage reg the other male on page was Charles Albert Stevens -according to 1911 index(free to search) his wife was Rosa - so it looks like Albert percy married Elizabeth Maud Cox -but I didn't find them in 1911

Just realised - you stated in original post mother was Ellen Lilley/Sparrow

Ellen Lilley married Robert Sparrow in 1887 - 1891 Albert is entered as Albert Sparrow age 11 born Stoke by Nayland Suffolk-is that correct?

Yes Ellen Lilley was the daughter of Edward/Elizabeth.
If albert was born 1879/80 he would not be a sparrow if Ellen Lilley didn't marry robert sparrow until 1887. 1901 census shows Robert & Ellen Sparrow & Albert P Lilley age 22.
1881 shows Albert age 1 as grandson of EDward&Elizabeth, but no sign of Ellen.( maybe she was in service elswhere ).

We know that albert was born out of wedlock, so we know we can't find his father . we guess the Lilley name was just passed down from his mother Ellen.

OK - with you now, I misinterperated first post that his mum was Ellen Lilley nee Sparrow. So when he was with Lilley grandparents in 1881 I thought they were his Dad's family.

I guess in 1891 he is just enterred with stepfathers surname. He was born Lilley - his birth reg shows that. Whether he used Sparrow at any time or not we dont know.
