Coslett of Llangyfellach \ Clydach Village
« on: Tuesday 15 December 09 13:03 GMT (UK) »
My gg Grandfather was Daniel Coslett, according to later census records, b1817 in Llangyfelach. However, he doesn't appear on a census until 1871. His first wife and children appear on the 1841 census for Clydach village, one the children, Margaret coslett being just 1 month old. He married his first wife Mary Tamplin in Llangyfelach in January 1836. Mary died in 1846. From the certificate I have of his second marriage in 1864, I've gleaned that his father was William Coslett who by that time had passed away. I've gone around in a number of large circles trying to find the missing years including many mad searches though FindMyPast and Ancestry but have drawn a blank. I'd be really grateful for any information, perhaps something from the records of his first marriage in 1836. Many thanks.

Thanks Morgan. That is the same person (Daniel \ David) - do you have anything else about the marriage, witnesses etc. I had picked up the basic information through some other research but anything else would be really great. I've been stuck behind the brick wall since I posted this!!

Pogle 1962,

I have a copy of the 1836 marriage and can send you an image if you let me have your e.mail address via PM.

Checked Glam FHS transcriptions of number of Parishes around Llangyfellach/Clydach for a possible birth for Daniel/David (including Ystradgynlais)- but no luck. Could be Daniel was born in Carmarthenshire/Breconshire - this area can be a bit fluid!!

The Glamorgan FHS transcriptions has 2 entries for the marriage ie.
Coslett, Daniel, of this Parish and Tamplin, Mary of this Parish, Llangyfellach 2 Jan 1836 (P,B)
Coslett, David of this Parish and Tamplin, Mary of this Parish, Llangyfellach 2 Jan 1836 (P, B, T)

The codes are P (with consent), B (Banns), T (Bishop's Transcripts)

The FHS Transcriptions also have 2 baptismal entries for the first child
Coslett, William, father Daniel Forgeman, mother Mary, bapt 15 May 1836, address Clydach
Coslett, William, father David Forgeman, mother Mary, bapt 15 May 1836, address Clydach

regards
