John McCurry age 74 in 1911 Census completed
« on: Monday 14 December 09 22:35 GMT (UK) »
I am researching my husbands family, any help from those one the forum would be appreciated.
I have John McCurry in the 1911 Irish census;living in house#2Carrowclare(Myroe Londonderry);he is listed as Head of Family-wife Mathilda, children John Francis,Sarah Jane, and Catherine. This is our Grandfather,Grandmother and Uncle and Aunts. My question is regarding the other member in the household- John McCurry - Father -age 74 widower and pensioner--- This indicates to me that the father of the head of the household was alive and living with his son in 1911.

Information given to me from another family member has this John born in 1837 and deceased in1864- of couse not possible if he was alive for the 1911 census. I haven't been able to find any other birthdate or death date for this gentleman;  any help would be appreciated.

According to 1911 census the family lived in the Tamlight Finlagen parrish, Barony of Kennaught and were Church of Ireland

Do a search on this site and you will find the records. Two different Johns I'm afraid.

Is it not Joseph McCurry aged 74 instead of John.

Also he is with his single sister in law Matilda Blackburn aged 55.

So here is his marriage

Joseph McCurry and Mary Jane Blackburn
Registration District: Newtownlimavady
Year: 1859

I found Joseph McCurry (Presbyterian) first also but John McCurry (Church of Ireland) is listed under 'Mc Curry' so you need to search for surname 'Curry' in 1911 census.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for all the quick replies;was definitely looking for John- had found them on the 1911 census; Joseph also there as stated with sister in law Mathilda Blackburn; probably a relation but I haven't gotten that far yet.
Believe I found death of the senior John McCurry birth 1838 death Oct-Dec1915 Limavady reg. dist.
Sounds right so will follow this trail.

Thanks to all
Lorraine

Not to worry- that's what the moderators are here for.
There are quite a few McCurrys in that area so you might want to keep a note of them in case they all do turn out to be connected but since some are Church of Ireland and others (like Joseph) are Presbyterian you might need to check both denominations when you search for church records.
