Which Gallachers were you looking for?  I've got a few in my files, if you give me some names I may be able to help.

My Gallachers are centred around Duntocher. My Grandfather was Charles Gallagher married to Agnes (nee MacLean). The family originally came form Donegal but settled in the Glasgow area. Interestingly the spelling we use is GALLAGHER whereas from time to time the more Scottish pronunciation of GALLACHER popped up. If you have any connections with any Gallaghers (or Gallachers) in the Duntocher area please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Leagle1,
I have Gallachers with every name under the sun - EXCEPT Charles!  Lots of Johns, James, Thomas'.
And, although originating from Donegal, all mine are either Duntocher or Glasgow too.
Sorry I didn't have a Charles :(

Thanks anyway Helen - if you ever come across either Charles or Peter Gallagher from Duntocher, please do let me know - they were both cobblers/shoe repairers. Good luck!

I have a host of Gallachers that, aside from one, I have never been able to pin down. My ggg grandmother, Isabella (Gallacher) Brown (b. IRL, d.1857, Bonhill). On the 1851 census boarding with the widow Brown was a Daniel Gallacher, age 28, b. IRL, and Ann Gallacher, age 25, b. IRL.

Isabella's daughter, Mary Brown married William Waugh in 1860 in Alexandria, with one witness a Finegal (or Ferigal) Gallacher. Boarding with William and Mary on the 1871 census was a Nancy Gallacher, age 45, b. IRL. On the 1881 census was boarder James Gallacher, age 25, b. Kilmarnock.

In 1887, William and Mary's 2nd daughter Isabella Waugh married William Gallacher, b. Houston and Killellan, son of perhaps the above Daniel.

Probably all the above are related, but I've never managed to 'link' with any surety.

While looking for the marriage of my Grandparents James Gallagher & Margaret Brown in 1910-I came across marriage of a Daniel(that is a guess) Gallacher and Margaret McLaughlin both Living in Duntocher. they were both 21 years of age. According to the rites of the Roman Catholic Church.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
