The nearest death in terms of his birthyear was in 1969 in Hendon Middlesex but the full date of birth is shown as 24.1.1884

There is nothing obvious on www.ancestorsonboard.com

Was there a divorce?  Did your great grandmother ever re-marry

Is the surname spelt with an E on the end?

Births March qtr 1884

William Steele   Macclesfield  8a 165

Macclesfield was the registration district for Alderley and if the birth was only registered after the New Year it would fall in the March qtr of 1884

There is no birth for a William Steel in Cheshire December qtr 1883 - March qtr 1884

NO my g grandmother did not re-marry and we are not awaere of any divorce. They spe;t their name without the E - which appears to have been dropped a couple of generations before.
