Hi.  Apologies for bringing up this old post, but on researching my Grandparents etc., I looked up my Father's birth certificate where his birth is registered at 31 Hallside Street 1916 and upon checking for the street location, I came across this post, so decided to register in your very informative forums.

If anyone is still interested in the family who lived there, I can offer some information.

Family name:  Johnston
Householder:  Robert Paul Forrester Johnston
Wife:              Augusta, Jane, Yielding Johnston (ne McBeth)  Known as Jeannie.
Child born:      Robert, Paul, Forrester, Johnston (jnr - my Father) 1916

I do have lots more information on my ancestors living there at that time.  Just send a message and I will be happy to offer anything of interest.

Thank you for accepting me in these forums.

Hello and great to find a post about a property I'm interested in

Tenants in 1923 John McLaughlan and wife Elizabeth. Son called Averell b1916ish.

Immigration paperwork has this address as their last before embarking to NZ in 1923.

Would love to know any other details of this family prior to immigration.

Hi Jangar,

Is it possible the family came to Scotland from Ireland?

I can't find a birth for Averell with any kind of variant, nothing remotely like it on SP?

Hi Annie, thanks for looking. We found Averell's birth details on Ancestry in Belfast. b1916. This somehow is at odds with the date of birth on the shipping document and the family stating they are Scots. With a name like Averill it shouldn't be this hard...lol J x

The ancestry entry is more likely I'd think in this case.

Lots of people boarding at the same time & errors do happen when people are in a hurry.

What was Elizabeth's maiden name or will you need the BC for Averell to find out?

I edited my last post to add a link.
