Hi,

On the 1901 census that was mentioned on the previous thread, the father is Daniel a Canteen Steward born in Scotland (born c 1840).  Daniel is named as Edward's father on the marriage cert.  If this is the right family then Edward was born in Scotland.

Afraid I haven't got time to list the details; will do later unless someone else can.

This looks like a possible death for Edward:

Edward Bonner
Death Registration Month/Year: Jan-Feb-Mar 1949
Age at death (estimated): 64
Registration district: Petersfield
Inferred County: Hampshire
Volume: 6b
Page: 441

Might be worth getting to see who registered the death.

Hello

There was no father recorded on either birth cert silvery which is what I don't understand as Annie was married to Edward Bonner at the times of both births. But they both have his surname as a middle name. Edwards father was also a Bonner and I have managed to trace that family to Scotland (Bonnar) and Ireland (Bonner)

Ah, I see you already have the Scotland connection; have found Edward on the 1911 census, born in Scotland, aged 24 (c1887), with a wife Louisa and children Jessie aged 3 and Lily aged 18mths, and hey presto his occupation is down as slating.  They are living in Portsmouth.

The number of years married is 4.  I think it would be worth pursuing this marriage a little more.

I would go along with the theory that the Bonner marriage was invalid for some reason.  Was he aleady married, for example?  Judging by my own ancestors, it was not uncommon to remarry while the original spouse was still alive.... :o

Greensleeves,
Totally off topic, but I think the bottle perched behind you
in your photograph is a nice touch.
Merry Christmas,
Ian;

It appears that they were trying to hide/conceal the marriage, suggesting it was not legal. I suggested that you confirm the wife was divorced but I realise now from the thread that the husbands situation would also require to be confirmed that he was single, divorced, widowed etc,

What were the names of the children from Annie's earlier marriage and when were they born?

Nigel

Good Morning

Thanks for all your replies.  Annie's first children were Mildred Maud born 1911 in London Arthur Verdun 1917 in Petersfield and another child called Frederick or Francis who I cant trace. All I know is he ran off to Canada but I will pursue that at a later date. I have been in contact with Freds children, who I contacted through Mildreds daughters but they are very reluctant to communicate so I have given up on that avenue of research

Annie's first husband Alfred Maurice (Morris) Francis Smith died in 1918 in Petersfield so she was free to marry.

Again many thanks for all your replies and assistance
