Fox Family
« on: Thursday 03 December 09 22:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi People

Not sure if I'm in the wright place, I could do with some help. My G/Grandfather
James Fox was born in Stratton Dorset in 1839. On the 1871 census he is on the Escrick Park Estate Yorkshire working as a game keeper for Baron Wenlock lord L of E.R of Yorkshire. On the 1881 census he has moved to Scotland he is at a place called Dunnichen Angus with his wife Alice and three children still with the occupation as a game keeper. In the mid 1880's all the children move to Birmingham married and had family's that's where i'm based now. After that I have lost track of them I can't find them in Scotland or England. So if there is anyone who has come accross the names or could throw any light on thier last resting place's I would much apprecaite it.

Regards  John

Hello John

In all of Scotland - 1855 to 1950, there is only one James Fox dying in Scotland.  Narrowing down the search has him dying in 1884 - in Angus.

The next thing to do - Register on www.ancestralscotland.com/signup/register/      You will get 10 free units from their joint promotion with Scotlands People.   You only need 6 units to search and view an image on line on Scotlands People  - which you'll then be able to download onto your pc.

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk   (You won't get any spam from either site).

Scottish death entries include full names for parents including mother's full name and will give wifes name.

As you don't mention Alice she may have remarried?  Do you have a maiden name for her?

Regards,   Steve .....

There appears to be a 1 page ?will on Scotlands People for your man.  This will cost £5.00 and is purchased seperately - do not buy credits.

Put it into a basket as you would from any online retailer and buy it that way.

FOX JAMES 24/03/1884 GAMEKEEPER, LOCHFITHIE, NEAR FORFAR, D. 15/03/1884 AT LOCHFITHIE AFORESAID, INTESTATE   FORFAR SHERIFF COURT SC47/40

Have a look at the bottom right of the first page of SP and you'll see the free will search facility.

Regards,   Steve

Hi there.   I am from New Zealand and I too am looking for James Fox with the same details you have liyted.  He was my Great Great Great Grandfather.  His daughter Flora was my Great Great Grandmother.  She had a daughter, Hannah who married a William Jackson and came to NZ in 1921.
Hope it is the same person.  Would love to make contact with relatives over in the UK!!!
Cheers

Hi Deb

James Fox is my G/Grandfather his youngest daughter Martha Elizabeth born 1873 was my Grandmother, your G/G/Grandmother Flora was her eldest sister.  James was born and raised in Stratton Dorset and was married three times in all and had  five children with the first two wife's.  His first wife was Leonora Sophia Fooks from Tyneham Dorset.  The children were Flora born Tincleton Dorset 1865, John born Tincleton Dorset 1867, Leonora born Escrick Yorkshire 1867 Died 1868, Eglah born Escrick Yorkshire 1868.  Unfortunatley Leonora his wife and Leonora there daughter died the same year 1868 and are buried in the church at Escrick Yorkshire.  From his second marraige to Hannah Smith born Escrick Yorkshire 1837 my Grandmother Martha Elizabeth was born.  At some time in the mid 1870's the family moved to Dunnichen Forfar in Scotland where Hannah Died and James later remarried Alice Houghton.  James himself died on 13 march 1884 and is buried at the church in Dunnichen.  Theres a little bit of information to carry on with I don't how much you know, I've been away from my family tree for a short time I will sort through things and get back to you.  Get back to me and let me know where about in NZ you are because you have got other relatives over there.
Regards  John
