Wiltshire Parish Records - BLAKE
« on: Monday 30 November 09 22:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I'm searching for the baptismal record for Louisa Blake born approximately 1817, though some people show her as 1812.  She was married in North Wraxall to Stephen Billet on April 19th, 1834, so I'm guessing the parish would be St. James.

I am particularly interested in her father's full name and if possible her mother's maiden name.  I'm sorry I don't know how much information is included on baptismal/birth records in English parishes.

A second, outside possibility would be St. Mary's in Tormarten.

Thank your for any help you can supply.

Sincerely,

Elfinwylde

To update this request.  I found a parish records book on google books  called Annals of the Parish of North Wraxall by Harrison.  It lists all baptism, marriage and burial information for the Billetts but for Louisa Blake it lists only her marriage.

I guess this makes it unlikely that she was born in the North Wraxall area so I will move on to other Blake families in nearby parishes or counties.

Would anyone know if other parish records exist online?  For instance for West Littleton, Castle Combe, Colerne or West Kington?  Does anyone have a suggestion of where else local that I could look?  I don't even know enough to request a lookup.   :P

Thank you.

Hello

Have you got her anywhere on a census?  I've had a look at the births in North Wraxel and she didn't show.  If you could give a little more information about her after her marriage.

Nic

Nic,
Thanks for trying.  I have full data on Louisa from the posting of her marriage to Stephen Billet April 19th 1834 at North Wraxall until her death in Fenelon Falls Canada.  She and Stephen emigrated to Canada in 1846, after an advance of 20 pounds supplied by the church on March 26th, and she died and was buried in Fenelon Falls Canada in 1867.

The Canadian Billett famly is very well documented, also  in North Wraxall back several generations before Stephen and supposedly back to the Norman Conquest (William de Belet).

What I have been trying to do is trace my maternal lineage.  Online I can get as far as Louisa Blake's marriage then I stumble.  The Blake name is also very common in Wiltshire and Glochestershire but since she wasn't baptised in North Wraxall's parish I'm hoping it was somewhere close by but as yet I don't have access to those parish records.

The reason we have been working on the maternal line is fascinating.  For fun my brother and I had our DNA tested at NatGeo.  Neither of the results were what I had expected but with English background I certainly wasn't expecting U5 for my maternal line, after all it is best found in Scandinavia except maybe for Cheddar man.  So, we would like to go back as far as we can to try to determine her origins.

Thank you for your help and if you have any suggestions for other resources please let me know.

Thank you so much for your help.  I believe this is the person I am searching for.  I was given a date of 1817 so this date is on the money, and the town is one of the possibilities I had researched.

Thank you again for your help.  It moves me a little closer in tracing family.
