I'll have a look & report back....

Josey

In 1851 no Simpsons.
In 1861, at No 1, Court, Blue Boy Street
Jonathan Simpson 49 scale cutter born Sheffield
Mary Ann Simpson wife 49 do [?scale cutter] born Sheffield
Wilfred 8 son born Sheffield
Roland Flack 17 son razor cutter born Sheffield

Interesting that a John Flack was witness to Ann's marriage....

In 1851 there is a Jonathan Simpson widow aged 38 bone scale cutter lodging in Snow Lane.

2 doors away from the Simpsons [RG09 3481 46 1] in 1861 is a Clack family [RG09 3481 46 2]

John Clack 32 razor grinder born Sheffield
Ann 31 do
Elizabeth 11 nursemaid Sheffield
Walter 5 Sheffield
James 3 Sheffield

The only Matthew Plews I can find is a grocer in Leeds [RG09 3380 9 2].

Do you know, Pat, the names of any of Ann's siblings?

Hi, this is all very interesting but the mystery seems to deepen.  No I havn,t got any more siblings. Have looked on free bmd and family search to see if there were any simpsons born around 1839 in sheffield with  a father Thomas and a Mother Mary ann but with no luck. Best wishes,  Pat.

I have just been looking at the 1861 census and there are a few Matthew plews, not born in Sheffield but living in Sheffield.  But unfortunately this does,t seem to help. Regards, Pat
