I have 2 pictures of the same subject, but due to size, I am posting them as 2 different posts.
These are of "a brickworks" I believe they are the St Johns Tunbridge Wells brickworks. If this is correct, then the date would be 1850 - 1890; I can date it to this period as the brickworks are there on the 1895 OS plan, but mainly because on "brickworks 2 the man with the dog or one of the men either side is my Great Grandfarther X2 - John Ready Thurston 1838-1881 who lived in Southfield brickyard (a pair of  cottages) St Johns road.
Could someone be very kind and give them a little colour?
Tunbridge Wells produced mainly Red bricks. :)
Locock - Sussex, Mankelow - Kent, Wheatley Sussex, Wilmington - Somerset, Harbridge

A "little" colour brings out so much detail, no hard hats there - what ever would H&S say!
I can not stop looking at it, you have a good "colouring outfit".

I see the one photo but not the second one. Can you post the other photo please. Im doing research on this brickworks for an article. What else can you tell me about the brickworks and anyone who worked there or owned it?

Following on from my post on the other thread, brilliant photo!  I wonder if I am looking at some of the faces of my ancestors and family members as I think some of the sons/grandsons of Thomas Marchant, who lived at Southfield Brickyard also went on to work there.  Would love to know if anyone has any more information on this brickyard and the houses known as Southfield Brickyard (from my research on the census there used to be 2 sets of families living there)

Unfortunately the OP has not been online since January 2010 so may not see your restoration, Bill - not sure whether you realised what an old thread this is  :-\ ;)
