John McBean and Jannet McBain m abt 1753 Inverness
« on: Friday 27 November 09 09:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello! I have done a lot of research into my family tree and have hit the wall, so to speak.  I have found John McBean and Jannet McBean who had their first child in 1753, but cannot find a marriage certificate for them.
Their children were:
Margaret McBean b 1753
Angus McBean 1756 (presume he died)
Angus McBean 1758
Catherine 1761
Malcolm 1764 (my link)
William 1767
William 1769
Isobel 1775

All born either Kinchyle or Chapeltown, Scotland.

Any asssistance would, of course, be most gratefully received!

Joscelyn

Hi jockm. I'm very new to this and learning from this site. I just want to say that Mc bean/Mcbain is very well known around Dores, Inverness. There is an area of farmland called Kinchyle.....and nearby is a memorial park dedicated to the clan. I hope this may give you a wee lead.  Good luck. Isobel.

Thanks for the welcome!  The family has always known the McBain / McBeans are from Inverness, and yes, there were so many of them (with similar names) that it makes it a bit hard!!  Another couple someone out there may have a connection with are John McBean b. 21.7.1796 who married Catherine Michael in 1820 at Easter Moniack.  Two of their children, John b. 1825 m Jannet Anderson and James b. 1829 m Helen / Ellen Graham came to Australia (Tasmania).  Any connections out there?
Thanks all for reading my post!

Hi jockm

You will not find a marriage cert for marriages that long ago, certification did not begin in Scotland untill 1855, and for the next few years is rather sketchy.  Have you looked at the Old Parish Record for the marriage, if you have the date and place Scotlands People should have a copy of it(unless the record has been lost)
Kinchyle is the family estate for the McBean/Bain family, but they are spread out all over Inverness-shire, especially Badenoch, you could try looking for them in Dores, Duthil, Alvie, Petty or Daviot.   These seem to be the main areas of settlement.
