Thanks for that.

I am not familiar with the graveyard but i am sure that will help if i am able to identify the likely area.  It will no doubt help other people too!

Do you recall if the graves are numbered?  I think that spaces in the graveyard has been revisited and filled over the years so the numbering may not end up to be straight forward.

I am looking forward to the monumental inscription disk to see if that identifies a grave location through hopefully a gravestone marker!

Regards

TB

The gravestones [well the majority that I looked at] had numbers on the back of them. I wasnt sure what they were, but when I checked the interment details I had found at the archives, they corresponded with the numbers.

Although I knew the area of the graveyard that the graves were in, I managed to know that I was heading in the right direction by the grave numbers!! Of course [as you know, cos you have visited] the grave is very closely packed with graves - so I am not sure whether each 'section' has its own numbering or not. I managed to find the first grave and which section it was in, through my local library - one of the names I was looking for was within the index cards - one of them was a casualty of WW1!!
Areas: Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.

Main Names: Wood, Taylor, Beckworth, Whysall, Hull [and many others when I go off on a tangent!! lol]

Did you library help you to identify which section it was in?

I have not visited the cemetary as i live out of the area although reports from other Rootschat people have indicated that i am unlikely to just stumble on it.

I am fairly confident that the grave will have a marker though.  So i am hoping that i will be able to direct someone to the general location sometime soon (probably when that disk comes out!) and your map is likely to prove invaluable when ive identified the site!

One of the references on the index card was a book of memorials in the graveyard - I cannot now remember whether it was specifically for WW1 casualties or not. However, I it was a lucky find - as I had been searching for his father's grave for some time around the area where he lived, without success!!!

I am doing very little tomorrow, so I will dig out my records. I must have copied down [somewhere] exactly what the book was!!

However, whilst I was searching for the grave - I discovered that of another relative! My husband spotted it and I took a picture - never believing that it could be THE ONE!! When I checked at the archives, it was indeed the correct relative, his sons paid for the grave, and him, his wife and his daughter were all buried there!!

Many thanks

Any more pointers may help to focus the area of search!

Kind regards

Sorry - didnt fully answer your question - yes, the book told me which section the grave was in.

The other grave I was looking for - I found an obituary in the local paper, which told me the date of death and place of buriel. I then looked this up at the archives and found the grave number - and also the section in which the grave was located. I assume from the 3 graves I have found their, that the interment details always give the section also.

I will find the other grave numbers I have managed to get, tomorrow, and see what they can tell.

Hi Truebrit,

Right I have found the grave details!

One family is buried in grave number 1707 - the first burial taking place in 1877.
One family is buried in grave number 1989 - the first burial taking place in 1879
Both in the Laburnum section of the cemetery.

I think that this would fit [number-wise] with your grave number 1369 - first burial being 1874.

Another family is buried in the 'M' section [which turned out to be the section 'church back' on the plan you have seen - dont ask for logic on this!] and their grave number is 6625 - first burial in 1906

I have no knowledge of the rest of the graveyard - but going on numbers and dates - I would say that it is a fair bet that your grave is in the Laburnum section?

Hope this is helpful!
