Leicester newspaper 1939 - look up please?
« on: Wednesday 25 November 09 16:51 GMT (UK) »
I have now found both William and Lucy O’Neill’s death certificates. (A previous topic).

I wonder if anyone has access to local newspaper archives and would be able to look and see if a write up of the funeral was put in. I am interested to see who of the family attended or sent wreathes.

William died on 21 September 1939 in Faire Hospital (I think it is ‘F’), Countess Street, Leicester. He was 68 years old. His home address was 11 Kimberley Road, Leicester. He was a retired schoolmaster.

Also – (but might not be in any local newspaper).

Lucy O’Neill died on 11 March 1951 age 74, at 11 Kimberley Road, Leicester.

Grateful for any help.

Mary.

Hi Mary

William O'Neill and Lucy Brandreth were my grandparents. I have newspaper obituaries for William and also James O'Neill his father who died in Bury St Edmunds on November 9th 1913 and was born in Clare Castle County Clare April 22nd 1832. He was buried with Military Honours.

What a lovely surprise! Thank you for replying!

I am the Grand-daughter of John, William’s brother. I have now mainly traced most of the family, but I would be very interested in any further information about William, especially the newspaper cuttings and perhaps a photo? When you have made another posting I can contact you via a personal message on this board. I realised William had two children, but had got no further! It is interesting that James (Great-grand father) had 9 children and only 2 of those, William and John, have surviving children.

So good to hear from you,

Mary

Hi Mary

yes I have photos of William and also one one James in full regalia with much facial hair.  I shall have to photostat the cuttings of Williams funeral, they are not in that good condition. William had a daughter Margaret Elizabeth born in 1909 and a son Michael William my father born in 1914. Margaret (Molly) did not marry I have a sister Bridget who has two children and I have two children.

Molly lived at 11 Kimberley Road all her life

Have you worked out what relation we are?

Sally B

Hello,

I too have the photo of James, holding a flag and wearing his 7 medals taken in Framlingham, Suffolk. I found the medals in Bury St Edmunds museum, and have a photo of them. I also have a photo of our Great Grand mother, Margaret, and have also found their grave.

I think we are 2nd cousins! John had a total of 8 Grand-children. I shall PM you with my details.

Must correct a statement I made above (2). There are possibly surviving children also from James (Jim 1885-1953), through his first wife Margaret.
