William Anderson Lamb - Bastardy Bonds
« on: Wednesday 25 November 09 15:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Just found this baptism record for my GGGG Grandfather William Anderson Lamb:

Location: Chester-le-Street
Church: St. Mary and St. Cuthbert
Religion: Anglican
5 Apr 1801 William Anderson Lamb, of Sunderland, illegitimate son of Elizabeth Lamb (single woman, native of South Church)

As it is pre-Poor Law, I was wondering where to look to see if there had been a bastardy bond for him (I am guessing his Father's name might have been Anderson).

I am in Germany so I would have to use the Archives Research Service and would need to minimise the time I would have to pay for, so should I be looking in:

a) The Chester-le-street Parish Records where he was baptised
b) The Sunderland records where he was born

or

c) The South Church records where his Mother was from?

Any help much appreciated, and if anyone knows anything about the family I would be pleased to know and can share what happened to one line of his descendants.

Thanks and Kind regards,
standardcrow

The bond I found for my ancestor's child born in Durham in 1804 was held at the Archives in the Cathedral Close at Durham.  College Green?   Can't remember the exact address but I went there in person to look.   Presumably if the name is not on the index it won't be there though.  Many did not survive.
