Please could you find Michael Morley born Whitworth, Lancashire around 1827.
I would like to know his parents.  His father is reputed to come from Hull.  Anything you can find would be much appreciated.

Hi,

 :)

Do you know if Michael married?  If he did and you could order his marriage certificate, it would give you the  name of  his father.  I know its not much but its a start.

Hi,

It seems that on the 1861, 1871 and 1891 census', he is married to Mary and then in 1901 his wife is Elizabeth.  So maybe he married twice?  He died in Blackburn in 1904, aged 77:-

Possible 2nd marriage as on the 1901 census they have a sister-in-law and niece with them, both by the name of Barnes.

Sep 1894
Blackburn 8e 785
Barnes  Elizabeth
Birch  Sarah Jane
Craven  John
Morley  Michael

Here is a possible 1st marriage but not so sure of this one:-

Jun 1848
Blackburn 21 29
Barnes  Alice
Christie  John
Duxbury  Isaiah
Morley Henry
Michael Morley
Proctor Mary
Whittaker Mary

Wilson  Margaret

Two brides with the first name Mary so without the certificate it is difficult to know which one and also there is a Henry Morley on the record too.  Maybe a relative?

Having trouble spotting him in 1841 or 1851, when he might have been his parents.

Possible death for first wife - there are a few but this one seems the best match:-

Jun 1893
Mary Morley aged 63
Blackburn 8e 313

Hi,

Well done Mo - I couldn't see the family at all in 1841 and 1851.

Presumably the burial in 1839 is Michael's older brother  ???.

There are a couple of submitted trees that give the parents as John Morley and Mary Hinchcliffe who married in 1818 and a connection with Leicestershire but don't know how to go about substantiating this.

Also can't understand Leicestershire as Westher mentioned the father possibly came from Hull.

 ???

As usual, more questions than answers.

Luzzu

PS.  There is a John Morley/Mary Hinchcliffe marriage on www.familysearch.org 6 Nov 1819 in Halifax, Yorkshire.

Hi,

I suspect that the burial was indeed Michaels brother.  I also have a lot of doubts about that family tree on Ancestry.   :-\

All the children of John and Mary Morley including Henry were baptised at Heptonstall and are on the IGI.

Mo

Hi Mo,

Do you think the John Morley/Mary Hinchcliffe marriage in Halifax might be right - its not that far from Heptonstall  :-\ and maybe the Leicestershire connection is a red herring?

One of the trees I have seen tonight had a marriage in 1840 for the Henry who was buried in 1839 - the Corpse Bridegroom  ::).
