You will be interested in the book The Morley Families of Halifax, West Yorkshire by J.A.E. Morley and C.S.B. Morley. It is available for free online viewing at http://www.MorleyOfHalifax.com. Your Michael Morley is (in the present edition) treated in entry B48 on page 319.  From his 1848 marriage certificate (transcribed at www.lan-opc.org.uk) we know for certain that his father’s name was John. In the above book I argue that this John was most likely the son of David MORLEY and Grace HELLIWELL, of Wheatley Royd Farm, Brearley, Halifax, Yorkshire.

I suppose it is plausible that your sources mistook ‘Halifax’ for ‘Hull’.

The John Morley that married Mary HINCHLIFFE also appears in this book, on page 281. The two John Morleys were first cousins; the husband of Mary Hinchliffe stayed in Yorkshire and was a schoolmaster at Cragg Vale, Halifax.

I agree with everything else stated by Luzzo, Duck and mosiefish. The purported link to Leicestershire is indeed unfounded.

Sorry, I have tried to find the entries B48 on page 319 but can see no reference to Michael Morley or John Morley.   What is B48.  Is it B1V item 8?  Nor can I find John Morley and Mary Hinchliffe on page 281.  Am I using the information incorrectly?

Hello Westher,

Sorry for the mix-up. The page references I gave you are now outdated. I updated the book in the middle of last month. I do this at least once a month. The pagination changes whenever I add information.

To illustrate how impermanent the page references are: as of today, Michael's entry now spans page 326-327. And this will surely change with subsequent updates. The most robust method for finding an individual is to locate their name in the index (at the back of the book). Then follow the hyperlink(s) beside the individual's name.

Michael's entry has hyperlinks to his ancestors and children.

"Entry B48" meant that Michael was individual number 48 in Family B (of last month's draft).

I hope this clears things up.

Now had a chance to look at the information you have.  Betsy Morley, daughter of Michael Morley married and gave her first son Morley as his middle name.  I have her birth and death dates on a photo copy of the Family Bible frontispiece. The family story was that Michael Morley was Foreman at Steiners Bleach Works at Church, a Justice of the Peace, lived at Sharn Hall, Chairman of Church Urban District Council (now called Hyndburn).  Also his family came from Hull.  I can find no connection with Hull so maybe this was in fact Halifax.  York Street is right by Steiners Bleach Works.  Where the hall fits in I'm not sure.
