Hello Dalek39, Just picking up on what Krisesjoint has said and it may open the search for James up for you but have you requested info about him on the Kent site in the UK?

Well I’m back. 🙄.  Hope this is where I’m supposed to be. Anyway I’m sure I’ll be advised if not. 😁. I looked at that list you gave Aghadowey   Very helpful.  I then found quite a few publicans in Belfast , mostly Nelson’s.  They must have been a happy lot.  1863-4  James Nelson. Spirit Dealer. Montgomery St Belfast.
A Nelson. Spirit Dealer / Publican  Antrim Rd  Belfast
George Nelson. Publican. 108 Great Georges Rd. Belfast
Roger Nelson. 1842. Publican. 10 Mustard St. Belfast. And Joseph Nelson. Also a Publican. 23 Mustard St. Belfast
Could they all be related or just coincidence.  As I said. Belfast is overpopulated with wine and Spirit Dealers.

I noticed in Perth and Adelaide there are a lot of Nesbits living near Nelson’s.  I found Nesbits living near Nelson’s in Belfast    I came across a James Nelson married Agnes Nesbit in 1807  Belfast. Had a son Alexander. Born 1828.  The Nelson’s and the Nesbits seem to be connected.   And.  There was an Agnes Nesbit living at Parkers St.  Shankill Antrim  Belfast.   Presbyterian.  Father David Nesbit  mother Agnes ?
Also a James Nelson married Agnes Nesbit  he was a cotton Spinner so I don’t think he was my James. Rosemary St Belfast.   As I said. Belfast is crowded with Nelson’s and Nesbits. No wonder I get confused.  Insanity is not in my genes.  Yet

And.  What is a cooper.  A few of them also.

;D  this is a skilled occupation, involving steaming timber to shape it.  coopers make wooden casks for storing liquids e.g. wine, whiskey fresh water.  They make handles for rakes, shovels etc.

:D  wikipedia should have info to give better description.  :)

Majm. Thanks for that explanation on Cooper.  it’s still all connected. The alcohol trade. 😁. It’s a strange thing. Every one of my great grandfathers were publicans.  Unbelievable.  I don’t mind a wine or two occasionally.  But knowing it’s in the genes.  I’m careful.  Haha.   Dalek 😬

Hi,

I will use the 'report to moderator' button to ask the volunteer moderator to remove 'COMPLETED' from the topic heading, and to MOVE the thread back onto the main Australia Board (it is currently on the completed board).

Majm.  Can the “Completed” on my post be taken off.  As I’m back on board again. Dalek.

Cheers,
