I have just received word from the National Archives..Kew..that they are not doing any more free quotes for research information on certain subjects, one being mine WO97..and will be bringing in a new system in March..so I cant get anything on James Nelson, re his Army info till then.. which should include date of birth, place of birth etc...
Its hard to pay for research when you dont know in advance how much their time will cost...so, I'm just letting you know not much will be going on till I find out more from them... ::) :)

What address? PRONI? If you read my post you will see that civil registration of births began in 1864 and that PRONI link was to check directories.

Aghadowney...The email address you gave me in a latter post was for PRONI..Public Record Office of Northern Ireland..
I saw what you posted, and thank you for that, but there was a site on there that was a HELP line for information regarding records...so I contacted them..nothing ventured..nothing gained...
I am waiting for a response for a quote on a birth record...

Civil registration of births started in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate for James Nelson born in 1840s.
PRONI have microfilmed copies of church records but since you aren't sure of religion or address in Belfast you can hardly expect them to find a baptismal record (which may not even exist) for you.

Unfortunately...as a senior citizen, we do get confused at times, and not being totally familiar with computers  etc.. I try to be considerate to you as I know you are all busy... It seems to me you were not happy at what I did.. by your remarks... maybe if I had your job I would understand things better. then maybe if I had your job it would be mayhem...

One thing you can try is old Belfast directories (see www.proni.gov.uk) as father James might be listed- this is assuming he was the proprietor of a pub rather than merely working in a pub.  ....

So how does this help? I'm not quite sure how to take this further. This was suggested and so if church records are the only option, it is surely a leaf by leaf search then?
