St.Peter the Great Chichester Marriage
« on: Tuesday 24 November 09 17:56 GMT (UK) »
Please could somebody check a marriage found on IGI at St.Peter the Great Church, Chichester? I have conflicting christian names for groom.
If anyone is going to the Sussex Record Office I would very much appreciate a double check of the register if available. Was it JOHN or ROBERT Harfield who married Martha Lipscombe on 21 Dec 1720? Thank you. Linda near Bantry, Co.Cork

John.  Both of Westhorne according to the marriage record but it was by licence and that shows Robert.   Spinster and bachelor yeoman of W Thorney.  This is from the Sussex Marriage Index so you probably do need a look up of  the original records to see if there has been a mistranscription.

Thank you for such a prompt reply Andrea. I will wait and see if some kind soul is going to the Record Office and can check it out. Best wishes, Linda

I should have said welcome to rootschat!    Very remiss of me.   We do have a member (janan) who goes regularly to Chichester and does look ups so watch out for her offer.  Usually once a month or so.  If you don't see that soon then search for her via the Search box at the top and put West in the other box then you will be able to click on her name and send a personal message ( click the green scroll under the name) and she will respond to say when she is going.

Hi.  I've just found this site and after spending absolutely ages still can't work out how to request a look up!

I'm replying to this post as my request directly concerns a marriage at St Peter the Great in Chichester.!

I'd be greatful for a little (easily understood) guidance on how to make a request!
