It's taken me nearly 6 years to make the leap to RootsChat (serious family tree research/addiction started Feb 2004) but, having registered at last, I have landed on a very promising thread for my tree. I think that Mike from Leicester is almost certainly the person due an acknowledgment for setting me on my way with this part of the family, some time ago.
I reckon that Donald NZ, above, is someone whom I have contacted late last autumn - fruitfully. Although Edwin is not in my direct ancestral line, George and Martha are there as my Gx2-grandparents. I am delighted to see the beautiful photo, taken by Bryo, of the gravestone. I hope it is acceptable to him that I have downloaded the image (including his name as copyright holder in the filename). That also means that my ancestors were living next door to tigtig's.
George's PoB, according to the censuses, is Lutterworth, and his marriage record has Thomas & Susannah BENNETT as witnesses. Unfortunately, my nice theory that George was the son of a Thomas BENNETT / Susannah ROBINSON Lutterworth marriage 3 July 1804 (IGI M061021) seems to have been demolished, since the Bishop's Transcripts (transcribed here, on another thread) show that Thomas to have had the surname MOUNT, and not BENNETT, as in the IGI. I can see that I shall have to visit the RO at Wigston before too long.
Happy New Year to all.
Christine
